The Iowa State Fair
It is the 2nd day of the Iowa State Fair. The weather was warm--a typical August day--close to 90 degrees. I rode the No 1 bus to the fairgrounds to pick up my volunteer packet. I had no intention of attending the fair, just swung by to pick up my t-shirt and tickets.
Arrived at the fairgrounds around 11 am?? The place was buzzing, people walking toward the entry gates from every direction, arriving on foot, by bus, by car. Traffic was jammed up. Local residents along Grand Avenue located 0-5 blocks away had signs up advertising parking. Some actually had tables set up and were trying to vend a product.
It was beginning to feel sweltering already. I walked two blocks to the volunteer building and they had trouble finding my packet. Eventually found it and then walked back to the bus stop. Didn't want to wait in the heat and caught the bus going the same direction I came in on. What a long bus ride. I was bushed by the time I got back.
